Edo NYCN condemns Extrajudicial killings in Uromi

Comrade Moses Agwinede, representing the Executives, Management, and members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter, has condemned the brutal killings of several young men alleged to be involved in kidnapping activities in Uromi.

The Chairman expressed his deep concern over the alarming rise of mob justice and the implications it has on the rule of law, human rights, and societal values. In a recent statement, Comrade Moses described the killings as barbaric and prompted by a significant failure in both the legal and security frameworks that should be addressing crime effectively. “These tragic events force us to confront the dire consequences of taking justice into our own hands,” he said.

The Chairman asserted that the NYCN Edo State Chapter unequivocally stands against any form of violence that undermines the cornerstone of due process. “Every individual, regardless of the accusations against them, deserves a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty,” he emphasized. He warned that the cycle of violence and retribution engendered by such extrajudicial activities breeds fear and instability within communities.

Comrade Moses Agwinede has called upon the state Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the State Commissioner of Police, and other pertinent authorities to take prompt action to reestablish order and ensure justice is served in a manner that honors human dignity and the sanctity of life.

In his message to the citizens of Uromi and beyond, he urged a collective rejection of vigilante justice and emphasized the importance of fostering a judicial system that values rehabilitation and reconciliation over violence and revenge. He encouraged residents to engage in constructive dialogue and advocate for judicial reforms that would bolster community safety and legal integrity.

The NYCN Edo State Chapter stands in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy, calling for unity against violence and injustice. “It is through collective action and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law that we can forge a safer, more equitable society for everyone,” Comrade Moses concluded.Furthermore, he extended gratitude to Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo for his dedication to enhancing state security and urged for the implementation of additional measures to ensure a more secured Edo State, he stated.
