The fire, which ignited at 8:30 PM on Tuesday, destroyed shops containing furniture materials, including leather, foam, and more.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, it was reported that the blaze burned for several minutes before firefighters arrived, as some traders had already left for the day before the fire broke out.
Residents and sympathizers were observed attempting to salvage some remnants of the goods from the shops while urging the affected traders to return to the market.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the fire incident, stating that the agency received a distress call at 9:40 PM and dispatched a team of firefighters, along with firefighting equipment, to the location.
According to Chiketa, the crew stopped the fire from further escalation.
